Shannon Arbuckle

Hello there fellow readers! Welcome! My name is Shannon and I have a library. A library filled with books that has been 30+ years in the making. A place where each book holds a place in my heart and has shaped the person that I am. If you are here, reading this, then you too are a reader and a lover of books. Or maybe you used to be a reader but haven’t picked up a book for a while. Or if you aren’t yet a reader, maybe you want to become one. If so, that’s awesome! I firmly agree with J.K. Rowling who says, “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.” What I’m hoping to accomplish with this Instagram page and blog is to encourage the reading and discussion of books. Simple as that. I don’t claim to be an expert on Instagram or blogging or even on all the books in the world. But I do know these books in my library. Very well. It might be cheesy to say, but they are like my good friends that have been with me every step of my life.

Another thing to know about me is I am an avid book-clubber. Is that even a word? If not, it should be. I’ve been in multiple book clubs since I was in my early 20’s. If the books in my library have shaped my life, it’s largely in part to the book club discussions I’ve had with other readers that helped me understand, interpret and glean information from these books. So again, that is what I’m hoping to bring to my little corner of the Instagram/book blogging world.

When I review a book on my blog, it will be split into two sections. The first section will be titled, LET’S GET EXCITED ABOUT THIS BOOK! This brief summary will hopefully get you excited to read the book! It will also give you my “content rating,” which is my best guess as to what the book would be rated if it were a movie. The second section of the review will be titled, LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS BOOK! This is where you will find a more detailed review of the book. I’m hoping my longer review will be read and experienced sort of like if you were participating in a mini book club discussion. What I write in these reviews are often insights I got from discussing the novel during book clubs with other readers. We often talk about what we liked and didn’t like about the book. What parts of the book or characters in the book that we connected with. Or how the book related to our own lives. Obviously, we don’t passionately connect with every book we read. Sometimes we just read a book for fun. Or to learn some history. Or for the action. Or for the mystery and plot twists. And, yes, sometimes we read a book for the love triangles! But whatever reason we pick up a book and read it, the hope is always that it will enrich our lives in some manner.

Also, I’d love to hear from you! What were your thoughts on my book suggestion? What did you like or not like about it? Feel free to leave these thoughts in the comment section at the bottom of the review pages!

So, I hope you will join me here along the way. I hope you will love the book recommendations and reviews that will come to you from my library. I hope reading my reviews of these books will encourage additional discussions from you, my fellow reading friends. And, as a side note, please know that I don’t expect everyone to love all of the books that I love.  One of my favorite parts about belonging to book clubs and having book discussions with readers, is often found in the disagreeing. I’ve learned not to take it personally when someone doesn’t love a book that I love. Instead, I find it fascinating to see how different books touch different people in different ways. A book that I connect with or find entertaining, might not have the same effect on someone else. And vice versa. It’s so interesting to me!

Well then…let’s go! Let’s read! Let’s discuss! Let’s learn! Let’s laugh! Let’s cry! Let’s become friends! Let’s experience all the feels and emotions that can come from great books!
