The Unmaking of June Farrow

LET’S GET EXCITED ABOUT THIS BOOK!

In the small mountain town of Jasper, North Carolina, June Farrow is waiting for fate to find her. The Farrow women are known for the mysterious curse that has plagued their family line. The whole town remembers the madness that led to Susanna Farrow’s disappearance, leaving her daughter, June, to be raised by her grandmother and haunted by rumors. It’s been a year since June started seeing and hearing things that aren’t there. Faint wind chimes, a voice calling her name, and a mysterious door appearing out of nowhere – signs of what June has always known is coming. But June is determined to end the curse once and for all, even if she must sacrifice the hope of love and a family of her own. After her grandmother’s death, June discovers a series of cryptic clues regarding her mother’s disappearance, except these only lead to more questions. But could the door she once assumed was a hallucination be the answer she’s been searching for? The next time it appears, June realizes that she can touch it and walk through the threshold. When she does, she embarks on a journey that will change everything…and entangle her heart in an epic star-crossed love.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS BOOK!

I feel like this book has been everywhere on social media lately. I’m often hesitant about super hyped-up books. But I made an exception for “The Unmaking of June Farrow,” by Adrienne Young and I’m SO glad I did! I’m adding my two cents to the conversation and encouraging everyone to go read this one!

As for my review…well, I’m not going to say too much. In fact, this might be one of my most concise posts. I think the less you know going into this book, the more enjoyable the experience will be. Hence, I will vaguely tell you that the writing is great, the characters are well-written, the plot is intriguing, and it kept me guessing until the end. It was a bit of a slow start for me, but once it got going…I couldn’t put it down.

I want SO MUCH to tell you exactly WHY I loved this book – but I can’t. It’ll give too much away. Go read it, and then we’ll talk!

In the meantime, since I can’t talk about the plot of the book – let’s talk about flowers! The Farrow women in this story come from a long line of flower growers. Throughout the decades, people have flocked to their Adeline River Flower Farm for varieties of flowers not found anywhere else. I, myself, am no expert on flowers. In fact, I know very little about them – much to the disappointment of my flower-loving mother. There were a few flowers mentioned in this novel that I had no idea what they looked like and had to look them up. In case you are like me in this area… here are some of these flowers in the story. If I saved you from having to google them yourself, well then, you’re welcome!

RANUNCULUS
LARKSPUR
DAHLIA
HYDRANGEA
SUNFLOWER
(Ok. I do know what sunflowers look like. But they’re just so pretty that I had to include a picture of them here.

There you have it. Your flower tutorial of the day. Now that you’re properly educated in floriculture – go curl up and read “The Unmaking of June Farrow.” And then contact me to chat. I have so much to say, and I can’t say anything!!! Ugh!
